My challenge would be done soon!

I have done so many works tonight, and I even wanted to appreciate myself. A lab report, my Spanish big test review, my English quiz review, and this blog have been waiting for me for a long day. How can I not appreciate myself? The hard works were mostly done, except this blog.

After my golf practice, I returned my room with my exhausted body, which worked hard for a whole day already. Then, I went to take a bath for waking my mind up. I didn’t know why the works were usually accumulated together. Then, using more than an hour to finish the terrible lab report and one more hour to review the whole “lesson 4” for Spanish, the works’ finishing comforted me a lot. However, there was still the “evil”, “endless” and “boring” reading challenge and the blog post stayed, and waited for my visiting. Actually I have thought about leaving the blog post for tomorrow, because it would due on tomorrow. But how can I know if there would be even more works for tomorrow? In China, there was an old saying that, “Never pull off till tomorrow what may be done today.” Thus, my dear 30-day challenge, I’m coming.

I had decided to watch the movie, Emma, for today, but I’ve already said that I seemed to be too busy tonight, and it wasn’t that easy to find the film. Then, I chose to talk a little bit about Mrs. Elton. Even thought many people in the book had described her as beautiful, clever and elegant, she reminded me Miss. Bingley. People who have read Pride and Prejudice must know her; she’s the sister of Jane’s husband. She was a minor character, who also loved Mr. Darcy, but the halo effect of our main character Elizabeth must kill her dream. Mrs. Elton was similar to Miss. Bingley, who was the second choice of Mr. Elton that Emma would never loved him, so he could only chose Mrs. Elton as the wife.

Was Mrs. Elton’s life a joke? Not really. She was rich, kind of pretty and had a good husband in her life. However, none of her skills were better than our main character. It wasn’t a big deal if people didn’t compare them, but Mrs. Elton just remained she in a little box, and only talked about her friend’s life or how she thought her life was. It was a tragedy that an arrogant woman has been written by an author as a minor character. Please don’t think that I was acerbity, I wasn’t aggressive. I just found it’s ridiculous for her to only stayed in her own world and imagined that she’s much better than the others. Well, although nothing might happen to this character, I didn’t think she would have a good life in the following story. Mr. Elton married her only because of her dowry, so when time passed, how can they continue their marriage successfully? I hoped life wouldn’t be so cruel on her.

The reading process was continuing! I’m going to read the ending of the book soon. I wish there would be a attractive ending to prove that I didn’t waste my time on it!

Comparing and contrasting during reading

I wasn’t so busy yesterday and today, so I used some time to review Pride and Prejudice, the other book of Jane Austen. Also, I finished four more chapters of Emma that I read up to chapter 37. Then, the third part of the book started. I found the books are similar but also different.

So, I would introduce Pride and prejudice firstly. It told a story about a family that had five daughters and no sons. In Britain for that time period, their family didn’t have an heir according to the law, so they would have no money after the father died. Elizabeth, the second daughter of the family, was a clever, beautiful and stubborn main character of the book. Her intelligence and her bright personality made her found her love Mr. Darcy. Even though it wasn’t so easy to make to people who excluded each other fell in love, the author Jane Austen did a good job. Because of the book, she became the best writer in my own perspective. Thus, I cannot stop myself to compare Pride and Prejudice, one of my favorite book, and Emma, the topic of my 30-day challenge.

Let’s talk about the similar parts now. By writing with the same writer, both of the books are having the same writing techniques. Also, for the setting of the characters, Mr. Woodhouse and Mrs. Bennett were having the same purpose. Well, please come down if anybody like one the two characters. That’s just my own opinion. Even though Mrs. Bennett always wanted to marry off her daughters, which Mr. Woodhouse never wanted to, their thinking is the same. They both proud of their house and always want to show off it to the others; they both always had headache; they were both stubborn on disputing their side; also, they had the same role in both of the books. That’s only a part of the similarities, I won’t tell more unless you go to read the book and find them out by yourself.

About the differences, that’s a plenty. For example, Elizabeth wasn’t in a rich enough family, but Emma does. Emma was in a glorious family that their wealth was even more than Darcy’s family. Elizabeth must marry some one to ensure her life after Mr. Bennett’s death, but Emma didn’t have to. Although both off them didn’t do anything excellent, Emma had a better education from the noble family that she had. It’s made her as proud as a peacock. She was usually kind, but we could know how she looked down to some peasants. For example, she totally disagree the marriage between Harriet and Martin.

Nevertheless, those differences weren’t big deals. The biggest difference between the two books is, I still don’t know who the male main character was! I noticed Mr. Darcy’s setting in love story since he appeared in the book, but I still didn’t know who was the remaining half of Emma after two third of the book. Was that a Romance or a Mystery? I wish I would know the following plots soon. I need to keep working!

blog post 7

Let's have fun with the challenge!

The next half of my challenge started. I had said that I wanted to change some plans of my challenge, and I did started the changings. It's a long weekend this week and I had great relax. I wanted to wake up early to finish my blog post this morning, then I woke up and accidentally fell asleep again. There was a prom this weekend, but I didn't want to go for this year's prom and plan to go for next year. Many people left the school over weekend to the prom or to their home, so my weekend wasn't exciting but relaxing and fun.

I've thought about how to do my challenge in some different ways. My teacher suggested me that I can read book on the tree, but it seemed too funny. I've thought about reading when I was eating, but I knew that it's a bad habit for my healthy. I've thought about reading when I walking, but I truly didn't want others think that I had some mental problem. Also, I didn't want to have car accident when I was reading. So lastly, I tried to fill my past time with reading.

During the weekend, I went out with my friend to have lunch. Then after ordering, I turned on my E-book to read. And my friend asked me what did I do. I explained that I did a 30-day challenge about reading a book and I felt extremely bored to read the plots that weren’t changing a lot. So I find some new ways to read. I read when I waited things; I read before I went to sleep; and I even read when I waited for the passing of YouTube advertisement before the video. Even though the plot wasn't that connected in that way, but it made me felt better to read.

There were 3 days in the weekend, so I had finished 6 chapters, from chapter 28 to chapter 33. Mrs. Elton finally came to the plots of the book in about chapter 32 and the plots eventually went through faster. However, the more important event was Emma, the main character seemed fell in love with Mr. Weston's son, Frank Churchill. In Emma's own perspective, she firstly thought that she crushed on him and couldn't stop to think about him. However, I realize that in Austen's other book, Pride and Prejudice, the main character Elizabeth also thought she fell in love with Mr. Wickham and lastly loved Mr. Darcy. Maybe in Emma, the same kind of plot would also happen soon.

It's a lot more fun when I changed my schedule. It wasn't that boring to read the book now. The reason wasn't just the plots became more interesting, also the changing of my attitude. Reading filled my free time, and I still have space to have fun. Then, I understand that the reading never got too boring, it was just what you face the reading. Thus, the better way to finish my challenge was to have fun.

goal for challenge

It's already half way through, and my challenge worked all right. But, it's a little bit boring. I truly regret on what I chose for the topic. I found extremely hard to write everyday blog posts. I finally decided to change some things I'm gonna to write in the following days of challenge. As what I thought about, I'm gonna to read the book faster, so I can quickly finish it, and not feeling that boring about the plot. Then, I could compare the movie of "Emma" and the book, and also compare my topic with Jane Austen's other books. I shouldn't only focus on the plot of the book or things happened in my life, I also need to work on something fun.

Thus, for the next half of the challenge, I would go to watch the movie and maybe find more other informations about the book.
I looked forward the exciting events for too long.
I'm excited by the up coming events.
The movie inspired me to be a good student.
The movie is inspiring.

I need to go on!!

What do you usually concentrate on when you are reading a book? I usually concentrate on the plots of the book. But as a 30-day challenge, I focus more on the sentence using and other language stuffs. Actually, it’s because that the plot also went slow… It’s already half way through, with fourteen days passed already. Besides the failure on match Mr. Elton and Harriet, I didn’t really see any important turning points of the book. If I became older, I might say that kind of life should be cool, but for now, I have got bored with their everyday meeting, conversation, the balls and the parties. Their lives were all the same everyday. I still had a young heart, so when could you give me some exciting love stories or exciting movements my dear writer?

Well, this might because of my drawling reading process. How much do you always read? I was a fast reader that I just used a day to read another book called Pride and Prejudice that Jane Austen, the writer, wrote. Definitely, I read it when I was young, and it was translated to Chinese. Thus, the reading progress now might help me with some details, but wouldn’t comfort my curiosity. As what I already said in the previous blog posts, I just wanted to challenge myself to read a simple story, but in a hard version. How could read a book that a person wrote in hundreds of years before seemed easy? Oh my god, I deserved it. Wish I could successfully finish the book… as soon as possible.

Whatever I thought about the book so far, I need to be serious to it. For the last blog post, I had said that I would evaluate Mrs. Elton’s personality when she appeared in the book. However, she still hadn’t appeared yet. Even my curiosity drove me to read chapter 28 and 29 briefly, I cannot find her “charming” figure. Oh my dear writer, can you please wrote it faster? I had been waiting for so long.

Otherwise, another character accidently came out smoothly. Even though the writer claimed that he had lots of reasons that force him to delay his schedule, he finally came to Highbury. He’s Frank, Mr. Weston’s son and Mrs. Weston’s stepson. They seemed having a good life that Frank usually lived in his uncle’s house. He’s been thinking as the inheritor of his rich uncle’s whole family. In the book, he has been described as “a very good looking young man; height, air, address, all were unexceptionable, and his countenance had a great deal of the spirit and liveliness of his father's; he looked quick and sensible”. In fact, the only thing interested me about the book was the information about this young man. Others appreciated him; Mr. Knightley didn’t really like him; Mrs. Weston could stay a good relationship with him as a stepmother; and Emma found his charming. What else can I interest in when I have chosen a romantic book as the challenge?

Can’t imagine that I still finish my task even I found it’s kind of boring. 16 more days and 28 chapters to go!

Reading should be precious

Time marches on, and so do my reading progress. There is a lot of information in the four chapters. Actually, I found it’s a little bit hard to read two long chapters. Whatever how interesting the stories are in the book, it’s still tiresome to read the never ended long chapters. Furthermore, those chapters were even written by a profound language centuries ago. Have you had a feeling that you can never paying attention on anything? However, I should know that it’s the challenge that I chose to do and I should never gave it up.

There wasn’t a lot of important things happened in the book. Because of the new part of the book started, the writer was talking about beddings of the following story. The story introduced Mr. Weston’s son, who finally came to their life. It talked about the intersection between Emma, and young lady called Jane Fairfax, who’s an orphan. Meanwhile, the story brought Emma a bad news about Mr. Elton’s new wife. Yeah, you heard right, Mr. Elton quickly changed his loving target and found a wife in a few weeks. Mrs. Elton was described as “to be handsome, elegant, highly accomplished, and perfectly amiable”. Well, it seemed like the people in Highbury would have some new topics to talk about. Since this “perfect” woman have not been seen in the book, let’s leave my evaluation of her to next blog post.

During the reading task these days, I saw the memory. I realized the memory when I had just started reading books. When was that? I wasn’t sure. It seemed to be a normal thing, but I didn’t know how unforgettable that was. I loved eating fast food when I was in elementary school. That were the biggest awarding my dad issued me in my childhood life. Please don’t think it’s not related to reading! Please listen my following story. Every time that I did anything right, my dad would bring me to eat fast food and buy me some books as encouragement. It wasn’t just a motivation to move me to do right things, but giving me an idea that reading books was a “precious”. I didn’t like to read book when I was young, but I had a feeling that I should treasured every book that I had and I read.

Can you believe that the birthday present I wanted the most are books? I ran followed my dad and only requested for those obscure and complex books. Maybe for other families, the parents would feel happy if their child wanted books, but it was opposite in our family. I could only have books when I participated really well. Nevertheless, maybe just because of the dissatisfactory feeling on reading books, I had a huge interest in it. It seemed like people would only know how important foods are when they were hungry. I could only know how valuable books are when I didn’t have them.

The younger me would feel disappointed if she knew I started complained about reading the book. I should adjust myself. Even though I had complained, I will continue reading it; I will try to satisfy myself by reading the book. 18 more days and 32 chapters to go.
